Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Ozymy and Alan Simonton.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Michelle and Alan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my business over 15 years ago and Alan joined me seven years ago. I jumped in with both feet and had no idea what a challenge it would be but knew it was where God led me and it was the right choice for our family. It took several months and many disappointments, but my first closing, I had prayed and felt we needed to tithe half that commission back. We definitely needed that money but felt that’s what we were supposed to do. Though business still has its ups and downs, we have been truly blessed since that moment and feel God has been with us as we grow. We started Knob and Key just over two years ago because we had a calling within our professional lives to reach more families.
It is our mission to empower families and agents to live well while creating a positive community built on service. It is our goal to build our business primarily on referrals and to walk alongside families for all their real estate needs for a lifetime. Whether its buying or selling a home or helping them find a lender or landscaper, we want to be a resource for them. Further, we want to build a team of agents throughout the metroplex working together in the same way and supporting each other and families. We lead our business by our faith and we want our agents and clients to experience that in the service we provide.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While we have been blessed to see growth almost every year, there are always challenges. As real estate professionals, we are guiding people in the sale or purchase of an expensive investment as well as an emotional investment. It is our privilege to walk alongside our clients during this process. Many times there are challenges and disappointments that come with these transactions and we have to help our clients thru it, and sometimes they are in the middle of difficult life circumstances that we are helping them navigate. As a relational business, we definitely feel the celebration and uncertainty for each person story.
Personally, I have grown and learned so much over the years that nothing really surprises me anymore. Anything is negotiable and we are here to serve our clients; however we can… even if that means replacing a goat that passes away the day before closing.
Knob and Key Realty – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Knob and Key Realty is a full-service boutique brokerage that helps people buy and sell homes throughout DFW. We are known for being extremely efficient and effective. Our average days on the market is 24 days. Most of our business is referral based because we are so relational and truly stay with our clients for a lifetime. Alan and I are very proud of our hands-on training program as we build agents to achieve their goals and provide the same relational approach with their own clients. We have enjoyed building a culture of family amongst our agents and clients.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
We have sold over 1400 homes. For our one-thousandth home we decided we would have a celebration with the client at closing. We weren’t exactly sure who would be number 1000 so it was really cool that it ended up being a family that was a repeat client… that just made it extra special. Most recently, our brokerage was nominated as one of the top 3 brokerages in Ellis County. It was a surprise and honor to be recognized by our clients.
